December 14 marked the two-year anniversary of the Newtown, Conn., massacre, where 20 6- and 7-year-old children and six educators were murdered in the sanctuary of their school.
Since Newtown, there have been nearly 100 school-related shootings in America. Our children should feel safe in school and we parents should not have to worry about sending our children to school.
Since Newtown, Congress has done nothing to protect our children, apparently choosing instead to ignore their safety and pander to the greed of the gun manufacturers and their lobbyists, the NRA.
Members of Congress are elected by us to represent our values. I believe my community overwhelmingly supports a national background check system that keeps guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
Our Rep. Chris Smith refuses to support new legislation on gun reform and plays partisan politics, instead. Change must come from Congress and it is up to us to demand that our representative does his job.
